Rat General & Kirana Store

Working at Rat General & Kirana Store inside the Jagat Trade Center keeps us pretty busy most days. Since we are on Fraser Road in Patna, there is always a lot of traffic and people walking by. The shop isn't huge, but we pack it full of whatever folks might need for their kitchens. Sometimes it feels like I spend half the day just counting bags of pulses or checking if we have enough oil in stock. The trade center itself can get a bit stuffy in the afternoons, so we usually have a small plastic fan running behind the counter. It makes a clicking noise that I’ve grown used to. Most of our customers are locals from around the Frazer Road area who just want to grab their groceries and get home. We don't really do anything special here, just the normal routine of weighing out grains and handing over change. Dealing with the distributors who bring the heavy sacks is the hardest part of the job. My back usually aches by the time we close up for the night. We try to keep things organized, but on a busy Monday, the floor gets a bit messy with empty cardboard boxes. It is just a regular shop where we try to get the work done. Patna is a loud city, and being in a commercial hub like this means we hear everything from the street all day long.
