You have to head out to Lakshan Bigha in Punakala to find where we work. It’s in the Paraiya area, which is pretty quiet compared to the bigger towns. We are located at Ram Pravesh Singh’s place. It’s a very rural setting, surrounded by fields and small houses. The office is just a front room that we’ve converted for our needs. We have a couple of heavy wooden cupboards for the files and a long table where we sit. It’s the kind of place where goats might wander past the door while we are working. We don't have high-speed internet all the time, so we do a lot of things by hand in big registers. The air out here is fresh, though it gets very dusty when the wind picks up. We know everyone in the village, so work usually involves a lot of catching up on local news. It’s not a formal environment at all. We wear regular clothes and sit around talking while we handle the money and the papers. Ram Pravesh is a well-known name around here, which helps people feel comfortable coming to see us. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing team. It’s just us in a small village room, doing our best to keep the records straight for the local community. It’s a simple life and a simple way of working. Most evenings we just close up and walk back home through the fields.
