Nalanda General Store

Our place, Nalanda General Store, is situated right by the Chiriyatand Flyover in Patna. If you’re driving along Chiriyatand Road, you can’t really miss the area, though the flyover does change the way the light hits the street. It’s a noisy spot with the sound of vehicles passing overhead all day long, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. The shop is a bit of a local fixture for those living in this part of the city. We keep a variety of goods inside, mostly the kind of things you’d need in a kitchen or for cleaning the house. There are stacks of biscuits, jars of candy on the counter, and bags of grains piled up in the corners. It’s not the biggest store in Patna, but we make the most of the space we have. Sometimes it feels like we are constantly moving boxes around just to find what a customer wants. We don’t have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just a regular shop with wooden counters and old-style shelves. People stop by on their way to work or when they’re headed home in the evening. Dealing with the 800001 heat and the constant movement of the city is just how it goes for us. We just focus on keeping the essentials in stock so nobody has to go too far to find what they are looking for. It is a simple, daily grind in a busy Patna neighborhood.
