Mahidhar General Store

Mahidhar General Store is a small business we run over in Anisabad, Patna. The shop is located in the 800002 area, and it’s been our daily workplace for quite some time now. We sell the usual things people need like shampoo sachets, cooking oil, matches, and biscuits. The shop front is open to the street, so we get a lot of the Patna dust and noise inside. We spend a lot of time organizing the shelves because things get messy when we are busy. It’s a bit of a squeeze behind the counter, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We don't have fancy displays or air conditioning. It's just a regular shop with wooden shelves and a stone floor. Customers come in throughout the day, some just for a single pen and others for a whole month's worth of groceries. We do our best to remember what people like so we can have it ready. Dealing with cash and small change is a big part of what we do. Sometimes the delivery guys come and we have to help them unload the sacks from the rickshaw. It’s hard work on the back, but it’s what keeps the shop going. We see the neighborhood change, new buildings going up and old ones getting painted. But here at the store, things stay pretty much the same. We just show up, open the doors, and wait for the first customer of the morning.
