Maa Ambay Kirana & General Store is tucked away in the Musallahpur Hatt area of Patna. If you go down Rampur Road in Mahendru, you will find us. The market here is always crowded and a bit loud, which is just how Patna is. I have been working here a long time now. The walls are lined with all sorts of things, mostly stuff people need for their daily cooking or cleaning. We have big sacks of grains sitting on the floor. It is not a very big shop, so we have to stack things high up. Sometimes I have to use a long stick to reach the packets on the top shelf. The humidity in Patna can be quite a lot, so I try to keep the shop airy by leaving the front wide open. There are always people walking by on Rampur Road, going to the market or the station. Neighbors drop by to tell me about their day while I weigh out their sugar or salt. I don't use a computer or anything, just a simple ledger and a scale. It works fine for us. There is a lot of dust from the road, so everything needs a wipe down every few hours. We carry the usual things like tea leaves, spices, and soaps. It is a busy life but I am used to it now. Just a local store for local people.
