Kaushal Pandey & Co is situated on the first floor of Vaishali Market in Patna. If you’ve ever been down Karbigahiya Main Road, you know how packed and lively it gets. There are shops everywhere and a constant stream of rickshaws and motorbikes outside. To get to us, you have to head up the stairs past the mobile shops on the ground floor. Our office at 107 isn't huge, but it's where we spend most of our waking hours. It gets quite warm in the summer, so we keep the fans going all day. The walls are lined with binders and documents because we still prefer having a physical copy of things. It's a bit of a maze sometimes with all the stacks of paper. We aren't really into the whole corporate culture thing. We talk loudly, laugh a bit, and deal with the challenges of running a business in a busy market. Sometimes the internet is slow or there’s a power cut, and we just light a candle or wait it out. Lunch is usually a shared affair with everyone bringing something from home. We know most of the other shop owners in the market. It’s a community feel, even if it’s a bit chaotic outside. We don’t try to impress anyone with expensive furniture. We just focus on the task at hand and try to be as helpful as we can to anyone who walks through the door.
