Janta Stores

Janta Stores is right in the middle of Nayatola. Patna can be a very crowded city, and Baripath Road is no exception to that rule. Our shop is just a regular place where you can find the basics. We have sacks of rice and grains sitting near the entrance. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling, so we keep a sturdy plastic stool handy. It’s mostly just me and my brother running things. We have a rhythm to it now after all these years. One of us handles the customers while the other checks the stock in the back room. The back room is a bit of a mess, but we know where the extra soap and oil are kept. We don't use any high-tech systems for our inventory. It is all mostly just written down in a thick register with a blue cover. The pen is usually stuck behind my ear or left on the scale. People from the Nayatola area have been coming to us since they were small. It’s nice to see the same families year after year. We aren't trying to be the biggest store in Bihar, just a reliable one where you don't have to wait too long. The floor is swept every evening before we pull the shutters down. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it pays the bills and keeps us busy. We are just part of the everyday life on Baripath Road.
