J. M. D. Departmental Store

This shop is in Panna Palace on Ganga Path in West Patel Nagar. Patna is always a busy place and this area is no different. We call it a departmental store but it’s really just a place where you can get most of your kitchen supplies and house stuff. The building is easy to spot once you are on Ganga Path. Inside, we have aisles but they are a bit narrow because we try to fit as much as possible on the shelves. You can find pulses, rice, different types of spices, and also things like detergents and toothpaste. During the festivals, we get really busy and it gets hard to move around the shop. The floor is tiled but some of them are cracked from moving heavy crates around. We have a few lights that flicker sometimes in the back section. Most of our customers live in the nearby apartments and houses in West Patel Nagar. They come in with their lists written on small scraps of paper. We spend a lot of time weighing things and packing them into bags. It’s a lot of manual work but that’s how it goes. Sometimes we have tea delivered from the stall nearby while we wait for the afternoon rush. It isn't a fancy supermarket but it serves the purpose for everyone living around here who doesn't want to go too far for their daily shopping.
