We are located right by Shakti Marble in the Ram Jaipal Nagar area of Danapur. If you know Patna, you know how busy this stretch can get with all the construction and people moving around throughout the day. The office is basically just a room with some chairs and a lot of files stacked up. My desk is usually covered in forms and policy papers because there is always something to sign or file away for someone. It can get pretty dusty with the marble shop next door, but we try to keep it tidy enough for visitors. Most people who come in are neighbors or folks from the local market nearby. We spend a lot of time on the phone explaining things or calling the head office to check on status updates. Sometimes the internet is slow, so we just sit and talk while waiting for a page to load. It is a simple operation. I started doing this a long time ago because it seemed like a stable way to make a living and stay involved in the community. There isn't any fancy lobby or coffee machine here. If you want tea, we send the boy to the stall down the road. It gets very humid here in the monsoon, and the roof makes a lot of noise when it rains hard. We just keep the files dry and keep working through the day. It is a quiet life mostly, just helping people with their paperwork and making sure their details are correct.
