Devi Ghar Kirana

Running Devi Ghar Kirana in Meena Bazar Sadikpur is a full-time job that never really stops. I live nearby in Gulzarbagh, so it is a short walk for me every morning. The shop itself is small, packed with bags of pulses, rice, and all those little things you forget to buy during the big monthly trip. I have lived in Patna all my life and I have seen this market change a lot over the years. Some days it is so quiet you can hear the birds, and other days you can't even hear yourself think over the noise of the rickshaws outside. I do my best to keep the prices fair because I know my neighbors are working hard for their money. Sometimes people ask for things I don't have, and I try to get them by the next week. It's just me and a young boy who helps with the heavy lifting. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. Most of our customers are women from the surrounding houses who need something quick for dinner. I keep a ledger for the regulars, though I prefer cash when I can get it. Being at Meena Bazar means dealing with the dust and the crowds, but it is home. I hope to keep the doors open for many more years as long as my health allows it.
