The Cakewalk

The Cakewalk is our little bakery over in the Dak Bunglow area of Patna. If you know the area, you know it stays busy almost all the time. We are right in the middle of it. We spend our mornings baking fresh bread and cakes. The smell is the best part of the job, honestly. We have a few display cases that we fill up every day. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff by the afternoon. It’s not a huge factory or anything. We just have a couple of ovens in the back and a small counter up front. Most of the people who come in are regulars from the nearby offices or families living close by. We do a lot of birthday cakes, and sometimes the handwriting on the icing isn't the neatest, but we try our best. The floor is usually covered in a bit of flour by the time we close up. We don't have any fancy seating, just a spot for people to pick up their orders. Dak Bunglow is a noisy place, but inside here, it’s mostly just the sound of the timers going off. We’ve had some long days, especially during the festival seasons. It’s a lot of whisking and cleaning up eggshells. We just enjoy seeing people come back for their favorite sweets. It’s a simple bakery run by local folks who just like to bake. There is always a lot of washing up to do at night.
