Basant Kirana has been on Road No.1 in Rajendranagar for many years. Patna is a crowded place, and our street is no different. I sell things that people use every single day in their kitchens. Things like turmeric, salt, and bags of wheat flour are stacked up against the wall. I like to keep the shop organized, but during the morning rush, things tend to get a bit messy. I’ve lived in this area my whole life, so I know most of the families by name. We get our supplies from the wholesale market twice a week. If the truck is delayed, I have to tell people to come back the next morning. It’s a bit of a struggle sometimes with the traffic outside. I have a small TV in the corner that I watch when there are no customers. Most of the time, it’s just me weighing out lentils or counting out eggs into plastic bags. The light inside isn’t very bright, but it’s enough to see the labels. I don't bother with fancy displays. The goods speak for themselves. If a customer needs something special for a festival, I try my best to get it for them. It is a humble shop, nothing more. We just provide what the local people need to get through their day-to-day lives without making any fuss. I close up when the street lights come on.
