Setting up our small studio on Bailey Road, right by the Ashiana-Digha Road intersection, wasn't exactly a big plan, but it has worked out for us. The space we work in is pretty small and usually quite cluttered. There is gear everywhere you look, mostly old cameras and lights we have picked up over the years. It is a bit messy with all the tangled cables and heavy backdrops leaning against the walls, but we know exactly where everything is kept. That busy road outside is always loud with traffic, which keeps things interesting throughout the day. Sometimes we are busy with weddings, and other times it is just someone coming in needing a quick, decent photo for a document or an ID. Photography involves a lot of waiting for the right light or trying to get someone to stand still for a second. We spend a lot of time sitting at the old computer too, just squinting at files and fixing colors. It is not always a glamorous job. My neck usually hurts by the end of a long day from looking down so much. People often walk in off the street just to ask questions. We try to help them out as best as we can. I have lived around this area most of my life, so it feels like home. It is a job like any other, just with more pictures to look at. We keep things simple here without any of the fancy talk.
