We are up on the third floor of the Disha Complex, right in front of the Patna University main gate. Being so close to the university means there is always a crowd of students outside. It is a very energetic part of Patna. Amar Jyoti Coaching Centre has been around for some years now. The climb up to the third floor is a bit of a workout, especially in the summer, but everyone gets used to it. The rooms are filled with the sound of the city coming through the windows. We don't have soundproofing or fancy interiors. It’s just a place with lots of whiteboards and markers that are always running out. We spend a lot of time organizing notes and making sure the fans are working. It gets quite hot in Patna, so those fans are important. The people working here aren't corporate professionals; we are just teachers and assistants who live nearby. We don't have a big mission statement on the wall. We just have a schedule and a lot of work to do. Students come here after their college classes, often looking for a bit more clarity on what they’ve been taught. We do our best with what we have. Sometimes we run out of space for all the bicycles outside, but we manage. It is a busy, slightly messy, but very real place for anyone who wants to study and get through their exams.
