Verma Preetika Architect

Preetika runs the show here at house number 4626 in Sham Nagar. It’s a pretty simple setup. We use part of the house as the office, which means there’s usually a pot of tea going and things feel a bit more relaxed than a typical office building. We do architectural work for all sorts of people. Some want to add a room to their house, others are building something new from the ground up. We spend a lot of time sitting around the table talking through sketches and ideas. It’s not always about doing something bold or different; often, it’s just about making sure the kitchen is in the right place or the stairs aren't too steep. Sham Nagar is a nice, quiet neighborhood to work in. We don’t have a big staff, just Preetika and a couple of us helping with the drawings and the site visits. We spend quite a bit of our time out at construction sites, checking on the progress and making sure the builders are following the plans. It gets hot out there, and we usually come back covered in dust. We don’t use any fancy corporate language when we talk to our clients. We just tell them what’s possible and what isn't. It’s a practical way to run things, and it seems to work well for everyone involved. We’ve been at it for a few years now and plan to stay here.
