Sant Kabir Handloom Association

You can find the Sant Kabir Handloom Association over at number 95 in Ranipur. It’s located in the Khushipurarajpura area. We’ve got several looms set up, and the sound of them clicking is pretty much the background noise of our lives. It’s not a high-tech operation. Most of what we do is by hand, the way it’s been done for a long time. The space is a bit dusty from the threads, and we’ve always got bundles of yarn sitting in the corners. It’s a group effort here. No one person is the big boss telling everyone what to do; we just all know our parts. Some of the older folks have been weaving since they were kids. We don't have a marketing team or anyone to take fancy photos. If you want to see what we're doing, you just have to walk in and look. It's hard on the back and the eyes after a few hours. We don’t make a huge amount of money, but it’s steady work for the people around here. We try to keep the traditions alive without making a big deal out of it. It's just what we do to get by. The building is old, and the roof leaks a bit during the monsoon, but we make it work. We share our meals and talk about the news while we work. It’s just how things are.
