Working out of 21, Good Earth Colony is a bit different than being in a big commercial tower. It’s much more relaxed here. Harmanpreet Kaur Maggo Architect is just a small operation. We spend a lot of time on individual projects, mostly homes for people who live nearby or heard about us through word of mouth. The colony is quiet, so it’s a good environment for thinking through designs. Sometimes we take our work outside if the weather is nice. We don’t have a fleet of staff or anything like that. It’s just about getting the drawings done and making sure every measurement is correct. When people come over to discuss their houses, we usually just sit around the main table with some tea. It feels more like a conversation than a business meeting. We’ve had a lot of people from the neighborhood drop by just to see what we’re working on. It’s a simple setup. We have our computers, some physical models sometimes, and lots of sketches. Sometimes the dog barks when someone rings the bell, which is just part of being in a place like Good Earth Colony. We don't try to be something we're not. We just draw buildings and try to make them look decent and stay within budget. It’s steady work, and we like the personal connection we get with the people we're designing for.
