I run Bedi Motors at Shop No. 15 on Gurdaspur Road. It’s a small place on a very busy stretch of road where cars and buses are always zooming past. I mostly deal with spare parts and some minor engine work for people who stop by. The shop is usually a bit greasy because that’s just the nature of working with motors and oil. I have shelves full of filters, spark plugs, and containers of engine oil stacked up. Sometimes it’s hard to keep everything organized, and I have to spend a few minutes searching for a specific part in the back. The floor has some permanent oil stains that won’t ever come out no matter how much we scrub. I’ve been here for several years now, and the traffic on Gurdaspur Road only seems to get heavier every single month. I usually keep a radio playing in the background to keep me company when I'm working alone. It’s not a big fancy service center with a waiting room; people usually just stand around or sit on a plastic stool while I look at their car. Sometimes my hands are so covered in grease that I can’t even answer my phone when it rings. I try to get the work done as fast as I can so people can get back on their way. It’s a simple, honest way to earn a living, even if it’s a bit messy and loud most of the time. We just keep the doors open.
