Kovalam Beach Retreat

You can find our retreat at Muprayil V. Villa in Puthencavu. It’s located in Chengannur, which is part of the Alappuzha district. Even though the name mentions Kovalam Beach, we are actually set back a bit in this inland area. It’s a much quieter pace of life here than at the big beaches. We run things from the villa, which is an old-style building that we try our best to maintain. The Alappuzha weather is usually quite wet, so there is always some moss to scrub off or a roof tile to shift back into place. We aren't a big resort with hundreds of employees. It is mostly just us and a couple of helpers from the village. We spend our days making sure the surroundings are tidy and that there is enough food in the pantry for whoever is staying. People come here when they want to get away from the noise. We don't have a fancy reception desk or a big lobby. We usually meet people at the gate and show them around. It’s a very personal way of doing things. We’ve lived in Kerala all our lives, so we know how to handle the heat and the rain. We just offer a quiet room and a bit of peace. It’s not a corporate operation, just a house where people can come to rest for a bit.
