Archaeological Survey Of India

Working at the Sahastralinga Tank site near Jami Masjid means every day is different. This part of Sidhpur in Dunawada is full of history, and being part of the Archaeological Survey Of India here means we spend a lot of time outdoors. It is not an office job in the traditional sense. Most of our days are spent walking around the grounds, checking on the stone structures, and making sure the grass isn't overgrown around the ancient ruins. The sun can get really intense out here, especially in the afternoons, so we usually try to get the heavy work done early. We have a small area where we keep our tools and some records of the site. It is quiet for the most part, except for when visitors wander in from the masjid nearby to see the tank. The stones tell a story that is centuries old, and we just try to keep things in order so they don't fall apart. Sometimes we find small pieces of pottery or carved stones while we are doing routine maintenance. It is slow work and requires a lot of patience. The local people from Dunawada often stop by to chat or ask about what we are finding. We don’t have any fancy equipment, just brushes, some basic tools, and a lot of manual labor to keep the Sahastralinga Tank looking right. Most of the time we are just fighting against the weather to protect the stonework.
