Swami Vivekananda Childcare Foundation

The Swami Vivekananda Childcare Foundation is located in Asansol, tucked away in Adarsha Pally. We operate out of Tulsi Prasad Gupta’s place, which serves as our main contact point. Asansol is a busy town, and our area near PO Kalla CH is no different. We started this because we saw a lot of kids in the neighborhood who needed someone to look out for them. It is not a huge operation with a lot of funding. We mostly rely on the efforts of a few local people who give their time after their regular jobs. The building is simple, and we spend our time organizing small activities and making sure the children are okay. Some days are more chaotic than others, especially when the weather is bad. The roads in Bardhaman can get quite muddy during the monsoon, making it hard to get around. We don't have a professional secretary or a polished website. Instead, we have a notebook where we write down what needs to be done each week. We try to keep the memory of Swami Vivekananda in mind while we work, focusing on the kids above everything else. It is practical work that needs doing. We are just neighbors helping neighbors, really. There is always a lot to do and never quite enough hours in the day to get it all finished, but we keep showing up.
