Students' Stall

You can find us over on S. S. B. Sarani in Bidhan Nagar, which is part of the Burdwan district. Being called Students' Stall, we naturally see a lot of younger people coming through. The shop is filled with stacks of paper, pens, and all sorts of things that people need for their studies or work. It gets a bit crowded in here when school lets out. We have narrow aisles and sometimes you have to squeeze past someone to get to the back. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, especially during the start of a new term. We try to keep everything where we can find it, but things move around. The fan on the ceiling makes a clicking noise that we stopped noticing years ago. Outside on S. S. B. Sarani, there is always some kind of traffic, mostly bicycles and rickshaws. We have a small counter where we handle everything. Sometimes we run out of change and have to ask the neighbor shop for some. It is a very local kind of place. We know most of the teachers and many of the families around here. It isn't a huge operation, just us making sure people get what they are looking for. Usually, we stay open until it gets dark and then we lock up the shutters. It’s a steady kind of life here in Bidhan Nagar.
