Our place is located right near the Durga Mandir on Tagore Road. If you are in Asansol, you probably know the area well. Lokenath Cement Industries Private Limited has been operating from this spot for some time. It's a busy stretch of road, especially during the festivals when the temple gets crowded. We spend most of our time keeping track of orders and making sure the yard stays organized. The building isn't very big, but it fits what we need. Most of the guys here have lived in Bardhaman their whole lives. We know the shortcuts and how to avoid the worst of the traffic when things get stuck. It isn't a glamorous job, mostly just dealing with heavy bags and dusty floors. We see a lot of the same faces coming through, which is nice. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook and other days it’s quiet enough to actually hear the birds outside. We don't spend money on big signs or fancy furniture. It’s just desks, chairs, and the ledgers we use to track everything. Working in cement means your clothes are usually a bit grey by the end of the shift. That’s just part of the deal. We keep our heads down and do the work. The weather gets hot here, but we just keep the fans going and get on with it. We usually grab some snacks from the local vendors in the afternoon to keep us going until we finish.
