If you walk down Station Road in Durgapur, you will find the place called Kanta Cloth Store. We are Kanta Cloth Private Limited, and Parmanand Sikaria is the one who keeps things moving around here. Being on Station Road means it is always noisy with the trains nearby and the people coming off the platforms looking for things to buy. We have been in this spot in Bardhaman for quite a while now. The store is packed with all kinds of cloth, and sometimes it feels like there isn't enough room to turn around, but we know where everything is kept. It is not one of those shiny malls you see popping up everywhere these days. It is a real shop with shelves that have seen better days and a floor that shows we have had a lot of feet walking on it over the years. We spend our days measuring out fabric and talking to customers who want something specific for a wedding or just for daily wear. West Bengal can get quite humid, so we usually have the door open to catch a breeze, even if it brings in the dust from the road. We do not have any big corporate goals or anything. We just want to make sure people get the cloth they need and that we stay busy enough to keep the lights on. It is practical work and we are just regular people doing it every day.
