Jamini Rice Mill

Jamini Rice Mill is tucked away in Hatgobindapur, specifically in the Singhpara and Nathpur area. We are under the Kastokurumba post in Burdwan district. This part of Bengal is famous for its rice, and we are right in the middle of it. The mill has been a part of the local landscape for a while. We process the local paddy that comes from the surrounding fields. When the harvest comes in, the whole place smells like fresh grain and husks. We have the milling machines and the storage godowns where we keep the finished rice. It’s a family-run kind of vibe here, even with the workers we hire. We don't have any fancy marketing strategies. People in the village and the nearby towns know where we are. Sometimes the power goes out, and everything stops until the generator kicks in. Those are the moments we take a break and sit under the trees outside. The road leading to the mill is narrow, so big trucks have to be careful. We spend our days tracking the milling cycles and making sure the sacks are stitched up properly. It is repetitive work, but there is a certain rhythm to it. We keep things simple and just focus on getting the rice ready for the market. It's a living, and it keeps us connected to the land around Hatgobindapur.
