Sri Venkata Durgaramaraju Mill Rice & Fill Mill

Our mill, Sri Venkata Durgaramaraju Mill Rice & Fill Mill, is tucked away on Reddy Street in Vijayanagaram. The address is D.No.11-108. It’s a family-run sort of place that has been around for some time. We handle the rice milling and also have the filling side of the business. The street can be a bit narrow, so it takes some skill to get the carts and small trucks through to our door. Inside, the noise of the hullers is quite something. We have to shout to be heard when the machines are running. It’s a very hands-on job. We are constantly checking the moisture in the grain or fixing a belt that has slipped. We don't have any formal training in business; we just learned by doing it year after year. The walls are stained from years of work, and the roof leaks a tiny bit when the monsoon is heavy, but we manage. We know most of the people who come to us by their first names. We don't do much advertising. People just know we are here on Reddy Street. We just aim to get the rice processed and out the door so the next batch can come in. It’s a simple cycle that we’ve grown very used to over the years. We just try to stay honest and keep the machines humming along day in and day out, regardless of how tired we might feel.
