Indian Groceries Company

Our shop, Indian Groceries Company, sits right on the edge of Nh 16 in Pusapatirega. The exact address is 7-19-87, though most people just look for the storefront when they are driving by. Being on the highway means we get a lot of noise from the trucks and buses passing through at all hours. It can get pretty dusty inside, so we are constantly wiping down the bags of rice and the oil tins. We keep the shop open long hours because you never know when someone traveling might need something. It’s a family business, so my brother and I take turns at the counter. We don't have a computer for the sales. We just write everything down in a big ledger and use a small calculator. The space is a bit cramped because we try to stock a little bit of everything that a kitchen might need. We have stacks of dal, different types of flour, and all the basic spices. Sometimes the delivery trucks arrive late because of the traffic on Nh 16, which can be a bit of a headache. We don't have any big signs or fancy lights. It is just a regular grocery store for the local people and the drivers. We’ve been here for several years and have seen the road get busier and busier. It is a lot of work keeping things organized, but it keeps us occupied. We just do our best to keep the shelves full.
