S. S. Bricks

If you go down toward the Shiv Mandir in Village Paradwip, you’ll find S. S. Bricks. It’s a salty kind of place being so close to the coast in Jagat Singhpur. The air feels heavy most days, which makes the work feel a bit slower than it probably is. We’ve got the temple right there, so we hear the morning prayers every single day. It’s a nice way to start the shift. The ground is often damp, so we have to be careful where we stack the fresh ones. Our little office is just a shack with a tin roof that gets really loud when it rains. We spend our time checking the moisture and making sure the trucks don't get stuck in the mud when they come into the village. Tehsil Paradwip is a busy area, but our corner feels a bit more tucked away. People usually find us by asking the priest at the Mandir or just following the dirt path from the main post office. It’s a lot of sweat and calloused hands. We don’t use any big machines, just the old-fashioned way of doing things. It’s simple, honest work that keeps us busy from dawn till the sun goes down over the water. We don’t have much to say about it, we just show up and get the job done.
