Our office is situated in Paradeep, where everything revolves around the port. Being part of Orissa Stevedores Ltd means we are right in the thick of the maritime action. The air here always smells a bit like salt and heavy machinery. Our executive office is a busy place, but it’s not really fancy. There are usually stacks of papers on the desks and people coming in and out talking about cargo and shipping schedules. The noise from the port is something you just get used to after a week. We deal with a lot of logistics, and things change fast depending on when the ships arrive at the docks. It’s a lot of coordination. The floors get a little dusty because of all the trucks moving nearby. We have a few old wooden chairs for visitors and a map of the harbor pinned to the wall. It’s a practical environment. We don't have time for a lot of decorations. Most of us have been working in Paradeep for years, so we know how the tides and the local weather affect the work. It’s hard work, and the days can be quite long when a big shipment is coming through. We just focus on keeping things moving smoothly. When we take a lunch break, we usually just eat quickly at our desks. It is a gritty, honest kind of job, and we take it as it comes. We are just local people making sure the port stays active and the ships keep moving.
