Vishvam Arts & Scuplture

Vishvam Arts & Sculpture is over at 63 Main Road in Ayyampettai. We’re right there where everyone passes by, so we see a lot of the town’s daily life from our front door. The place is usually full of half-finished statues and pieces of stone or clay. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes to walk around without bumping into something. We aren't much for keeping things perfectly tidy because we’re always in the middle of a project. Working on sculptures is a slow process. You can’t really rush it or the whole thing might crack. We use tools that have been passed down for a while now. Ayyampettai is a good place for a shop like ours because people here appreciate the effort that goes into making something by hand. We don’t have a big marketing plan or a salesperson. Usually, someone sees a piece we’ve finished and asks if we can make something similar. That’s how we’ve always done it. It’s a lot of physical labor, moving heavy materials and standing for hours on end. Sometimes our backs ache, but that’s part of the trade. We’re just regular folks who happen to be good at shaping things. We don’t make any big promises, we just show up and do the work every day. It’s a quiet enough life, mostly spent in the shop with the dust and the tools.
