We have been operating out of 101 Panna Vihar for some time now. Vileparle East is always busy, especially being so close to Jaineye Hospital. You can hear the traffic and see people hurrying around all day long. In our office, it is mostly about piles of papers and local site plans. My cousin helped with the initial setup because the walls needed a fresh coat of paint. Usually, we spend the mornings drinking tea from the stall down the street and going over what needs to be done for the week. It is not always smooth sailing. Sometimes the internet goes down or we lose a file in the stack, but we get through it eventually. People stop by asking for directions to the hospital more than they ask about land, but that is just part of the day. The building is older but it feels like home to us. We know the shopkeepers downstairs by name and say hello every morning. Working here feels like being part of the neighborhood. We don't have a fancy reception area with a coffee machine, just a regular water pot and some plastic chairs for guests to sit on. Most of the work happens on the ground, visiting sites and talking to laborers. By the time evening rolls around, the Malaviya Road gets even more crowded, and we usually wrap things up. It is a simple way of working, without any big fuss or complicated systems.
