Spykar Woollens

Spykar Woollens is right at No. 205 Purbiyan Ghati Pachranga Bazar. We are near Hanuman Mandir, so you can always hear the bells and the sounds from the temple throughout the day. It’s actually a nice way to keep track of time without looking at a clock. Pachranga Bazar is a very crowded place, especially during the festive seasons when everyone is out shopping. There are so many shops and people walking around that it can be hard to even move a cart through the lanes. Our shop is filled with wool and different types of yarn from floor to ceiling. The smell is very distinct, kind of earthy and a little bit dusty at the same time. We have stacks of heavy sweaters and blankets everywhere, which makes the place feel very small. It gets a bit cramped in the back where we store the extra stock for the winter months. We’ve been here at Purbiyan Ghati for a long time, so we know most of the other shopkeepers by their first names. We spend a lot of time talking to customers who come in looking for something warm to wear. It’s not a modern place with glass walls or bright lights. It’s an old building with character, and sometimes the walls need a bit of paint. We just keep going. It feels like home to us because we are here so much. It is just a regular local business.
