Being in Pachranga Bazar means things are always crowded and moving. Our spot is No. 865/3 in the Hari Om Shawl Market. If you’ve ever walked through the bazar, you know how tight the lanes can get. We spend our days surrounded by heaps of shawls and woolens. It’s mostly busy when the weather starts to turn cold. That’s when everyone remembers they need something warm. The rest of the year we are just sorting through stock and talking to the other shopkeepers. The tea seller comes by twice a day and that’s usually the highlight of the morning. Our shop isn't very big, so we have to use every inch of the walls to stack the goods. Sometimes a customer wants something from the very bottom of a pile and we have to move everything. It’s a lot of lifting and folding. My back usually aches by the time we close the shutters. We’ve been in this market long enough to know everyone’s name. The noise from the street never really stops until late at night. We don't have any air conditioning, just a couple of old fans that creak. It gets the job done though. We handle the sales, the packing, and the cleaning ourselves. It’s just a small family-style operation here in the middle of the bazar chaos. We hope the rain stays away because the roof has a tiny drip we haven't fixed yet.
