Being near the fatak means we spend a lot of time watching the railway gates open and close. When the gates are down, the traffic piles up right in front of our door. It gets very loud with all the scooters and trucks waiting. The shop isn't very large, just enough space for some shelves and a small counter where we sit. We have been in Bharat Nagar for a while now. The building is a bit old and the paint on the outside is starting to chip away. Panipat is a busy industrial city, so there is always dust in the air. We keep a cloth handy to wipe down the items on the shelves. Inside, it's just plain walls and a few lights. We don't have any fancy displays or bright signs. It’s a very practical kind of place. Most people who come in are from the neighborhood or someone stuck at the railway crossing looking for something. We know many of the regulars by name. Sometimes we just sit and talk while waiting for the train to pass. It’s just a regular shop on a busy road. We do our work and go home when the sun sets. There isn't much more to it than that. We just stay here and keep things moving.
