Laltu Basanalay

Laltu Basanalay is located in the village of Bantika Boinchi, right here in the Hooghly district. If you are coming from the main Boinchi post office, it’s just a short trip to find us. We mostly sell utensils and kitchen items made of steel, brass, and aluminum. It is the kind of shop where people from the surrounding villages come when they are getting married or setting up a new home. We have rows of pots, plates, and glasses stacked up to the ceiling. It can get a bit noisy when someone is sorting through the metal items, but that’s the sound of the shop. I started this place because there wasn't a good spot nearby to get these things without going all the way into the bigger towns. We keep things simple here. There are no fancy displays or bright lights. Just the goods laid out so people can feel the weight of a pan or check the finish on a set of spoons. Sometimes the dust from the road blows in, so we spend a lot of time wiping things down to keep them shiny. My son helps out after his school hours, and we know almost everyone who walks through the door. It’s a quiet life for the most part, just serving the local community and making sure they have the basic tools they need for their kitchens. We don't need much more than that to be happy with the work we do.
