Satvika Bricks

We spend most of our days out here in Patan Bori, right on the main road. It’s a dusty spot but it gets the job done. Making bricks isn't exactly a glamorous life, but it's what we know how to do. The sun gets pretty hot out here in the Yavatmal district, and we’re usually covered in red clay from head to toe by noon. People stop by because they’re building something nearby or just need a few loads for a wall. We don’t have fancy offices or anything like that. Just the yard and the kilns. Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate and we have to slow down, which is frustrating but that’s just how it goes with this kind of work. We’ve been at this for a while now. My hands are always rough, and the trucks coming in and out make a lot of noise. It’s a busy place, especially when the building season is in full swing. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the stacks are straight. If you drive past the main road, you’ll see us. There’s usually a tractor or two idling near the entrance. We don't spend much time on the computer or doing paperwork if we can help it. Most of our time is spent checking the batches or talking to the drivers. It’s just us doing what we’ve always done. It’s hard work, but it keeps the lights on.
