If you are looking for Kohima Machine Tools, you have to head toward the Gota Railway Crossing. We are over at 50/A in the Meldi Estate. You can usually hear the trains passing by throughout the day, which becomes something you just stop noticing after a week of working here. Being in Goa is nice, though the humidity in the workshop really gets to you during the summer months. Our spot at 50/A isn't anything special to look at from the outside. It’s a solid building with enough room for the machines and the stacks of parts we keep moving. We open up early, usually when the air is still a bit cool before the sun gets high. Meldi Estate stays pretty busy with trucks and people moving crates around. Most of us live nearby, so the commute isn't too bad unless the crossing gate stays down for a long freight train. The shop floor is always a bit messy with metal shavings and oil, but that’s just how it goes when you’re actually working with your hands. We don’t have a big marketing team or anyone sitting around in a suit. If you come by, you’ll probably find us with grease on our hands or checking a measurement. It is practical work. We keep the machines running and try to stay on top of the orders that come in. It’s a simple life at the estate, just focusing on the tools and making sure everything is square.
