Khandelwal Cement Agency is right on Rasulpur Road, directly across from the Power House. It’s a busy road so there’s always noise from the trucks and traffic passing by. We deal in cement bags all day long. My hands are usually covered in that grey dust by noon. The shop has been here for a while and we know most of the builders who come through. Sometimes they stay for a tea while we wait for the loaders to finish. The power house is a good landmark for people who haven't visited us before. It makes it easy to give directions over the phone. We don’t have a big fancy showroom or anything like that. It’s just a warehouse and a small desk where I sit. We focus on getting the orders out on time because nobody likes a delay when they are pouring concrete. The weather usually dictates how busy we are. When it rains, everything slows down and we just sit and watch the water run off the road. But when it’s dry, it is non-stop. We try to keep a good stock of the different grades people ask for. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and moving things around but that’s the business. We are just local people trying to keep the supplies moving for the neighborhood projects and the bigger sites too. It gets loud and messy, but that is the way a cement shop on a main road works. We don't mind.
