Barath Earth Movers

If you walk into the Karapakam Complex at Manikkga Puram, you’ll see our space at number 52. Barath Earth Movers is basically just a local operation where we keep our gear and handle the paperwork for the jobs. It’s not the quietest place because of all the traffic nearby, but we’ve gotten used to it. We started out small and stayed that way on purpose because it’s easier to manage things ourselves. We do a lot of work for neighbors and people in the surrounding area who need things moved or cleared out. The complex can get a bit crowded with all the different shops around, but everyone knows each other. Usually, one of us is hanging around the front while the rest are out at a site somewhere. We keep a pot of tea going and just wait for the next call to come in. There’s nothing flashy about how we run things. We just make sure the machines are fueled up and the blades are sharp enough for the day's work. It’s been a few years now since we set up shop here and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. But our spot in the complex stays the same. We handle a lot of different soil types around here and every job feels a little different from the last one. It’s hard work, but we like being outside and seeing the progress at the end of the day.
