Varsha Pan & General Store

We are located in Marwar Sindhi Bazar at Varsha Pan & General Store. This market is always full of people, so there is never a dull moment. Our shop is quite small, but we pack it with all sorts of things like cigarettes, matches, batteries, and of course, the ingredients for making pan. We spend a lot of time washing the betel leaves and preparing the different mixtures that go inside. It’s a bit of a craft, getting the proportions right so it tastes the way people like it. Besides the pan, we sell small snacks and cold drinks from a little fridge tucked in the corner. The shelves are mostly full of things that people realize they forgot to buy at the bigger stores. We have a lot of regular customers who stop by every single day just to grab a quick item and chat for a minute about the news or the weather. It can get a bit dusty because the shop is open to the street, so we are always using a feather duster on the jars. We stay open pretty late because that’s when the bazaar is the most active. It’s mostly just us standing behind the counter, watching the world go by and helping out whoever walks in. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just a regular shop where we try to keep enough stock so we don't have to turn anyone away on a busy evening.
