Shriya Devi Kirana Store

You can find Shriya Devi Kirana Store right at Ranakpur Bheru Chowk in Sadri. It’s a busy intersection, so there is always someone passing by the door. We sell the usual things people need for their kitchens like spices, rice, and cooking oil. The store is packed with gunny bags and plastic jars. I spend a lot of my time weighing out portions for customers. Bheru Chowk is a lively place, especially in the evenings when everyone is out doing their shopping. The shop has an old wooden counter that has been there since we opened. I keep a small radio on a shelf that plays local news or songs. It’s not a very big shop, so you have to watch your step around the crates of vegetables or bottled water. I try to keep the dust off the shelves, but it’s hard with the windows open to the square. Most of my customers are regulars who live nearby. We talk about the local events or the prices of grain while I wrap their items in paper or bags. The ceiling fan hums along all day, trying to move the heavy air. I don't really have a computer here, just my notebook and a pen. It’s how I’ve always done it. When the day is over, I pull the metal shutter down and head home. It is a simple business but it keeps the family fed and happy and keeps me busy.
