Prakash Traders

Our shop, Prakash Traders, is on Subhash Marg over on Sojat Road. It’s a busy stretch of road, especially during the middle of the day. We’ve been here for a while, and the routine hasn’t changed much. We start by cleaning up the front and checking what came in the day before. The building isn't anything special to look at, just a regular brick and mortar place. We have a lot of shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. Sometimes I have to use a shaky ladder to reach the stuff at the top. It makes me a bit nervous every time. We get all sorts of people coming through the door. Some are in a hurry and others want to stay and chat for an hour. We try to be polite to everyone. The heat on Sojat Road can be really something in May and June. We just keep the doors open to let whatever breeze there is come inside. We have a small radio that we play sometimes, mostly for the news or some old songs. It keeps us company. We don't use any fancy technology here. We have our books and we write everything down by hand. It works for us and we don't see a reason to change. By the time we lock up, the streetlights are usually starting to flicker on. It’s a full day’s work every single time. We just keep going.
