Prakash General & Namkeen

Prakash General & Namkeen is located in Subhash Nagar, right in the Mill Chali area. If you walk down our street, you can usually smell the spices and the oil before you even see the shop. We sell all the basic things people need for their houses, like soap and flour, but the namkeen is what we are really known for. We spend a lot of time in the back where we keep the big containers of snacks. It’s a small, crowded shop with shelves reaching all the way to the roof. We have to use a little wooden ladder to reach the stuff on the top. The neighborhood is mostly families, so we see the same people every single day. Kids come in after school for a small packet of something salty, and the older men stop by to pick up their daily needs. It’s not a polished supermarket. The floor is old, and the counter is worn down from years of people leaning on it. We don’t have a computer for billing; we just use a small notebook and a pen. It’s simpler that way. The fans hum all day long to keep the heat away from the food. We like it this way, being a part of the daily routine for the people in Mill Chali. There isn't any fancy talk here. We just give people what they need, share a bit of news, and keep the snacks fresh. It's just a local store.
