Nathumal Kirana Store

Nathumal Kirana Store has been sitting near the Mill Gate by Railway Station 4 for many years. It is a busy spot because of the trains and the people coming and going from the mill. We sell all kinds of grains, spices, and general groceries that folks need for their kitchens. The shop is often dusty because of the location, but we do our best to sweep it out every morning. You can hear the trains passing by all day, which you just get used to after a while. We start our day very early to catch the morning crowd. The bags of rice and flour are heavy, and moving them around is a workout in itself. We don't have a lot of help, so it is usually just us managing the scales and the cash box. It is a basic setup with old wooden shelves and glass jars. We don't bother with fancy displays or lighting. People come here because they know we have what they need and we don't overcharge. Sometimes we have a bit of a wait when several people arrive at the same time, but nobody seems to mind much. We have seen the station area change a lot over the decades, but our shop stays pretty much the same. It is honest work and it keeps us connected to the community here. We enjoy the routine of it and seeing our regular customers every week when they come to restock their pantries.
