Mahalakshmi Sweet & Namkin

You’ll find Mahalakshmi Sweet & Namkin over by College Road, near Nahar Puliya. It’s a spot where a lot of students and locals pass through every day. We carry a mix of sweet things and salty snacks, which seems to work well for the crowd here. Being near the college means things get pretty loud and energetic in the afternoons. We’ve got a small counter and some shelves lined with bags of namkeen. We make most of the stuff right here. It’s a basic operation. We don’t have a team of chefs, just a couple of guys who know how to work the fryers and the pans. The oil sizzles all morning as we get the snacks ready. We don't go for fancy packaging, just clear bags so you can see what you’re getting. Sometimes the shop gets crowded and people have to wait on the sidewalk, but nobody seems to mind too much. We try to keep prices fair because we know our customers. We aren't a big chain, just a local shop trying to make a living. The Nahar Puliya area is a good place to be. We’ve been here a while and we know the rhythms of the street. It’s just us, doing our daily work and making sure there’s enough for everyone who stops by College Road. We keep the doors open late most nights to catch the late crowd. It’s been this way for as long as I can remember.
