Madhur Sweets is located in the middle of Rani Pratap Bazar. If you’ve ever walked through the bazar, you know how packed it gets with shoppers and carts. We are right in the thick of it. Our day starts with getting the supplies delivered through the narrow lanes before the crowds arrive. We don’t have a massive selection, just the things that people in this area like to eat. We spend a lot of time standing behind the glass cases, waiting for people to finish their shopping and stop by for a treat. It’s a lot of repetitive work, like packing boxes and weighing out portions. The air in the shop usually smells like fried oil and sugar. We don’t use any complicated technology or modern systems here. Everything is done the old way with scales and notebooks. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy to get around to it. We see a lot of kids coming in with their parents after school. It’s a humble place and we don’t pretend it’s anything else. We are just one of many small businesses trying to make it in the bazar. We don’t have a fancy website or social media. We just stay open and serve whoever walks through the door. Usually, that is enough to keep us busy from the morning until we pull the shutters down.
