Our shop, M Kotwal Watch Sale & Service, sits right by the Old Bus Stand in Chudighar Bazar. It’s a very active spot because of all the travelers and shoppers in the bazar. We have a display area for the watches we sell, but the heart of the place is the repair bench in the corner. We get a lot of walk-in traffic from people who are just passing through the bus stand and notice their watch has the wrong time. We fix a lot of broken crystals and dead batteries throughout the day. The noise from the buses and the bazar is always there, but we’ve learned to tune it out while we work on the delicate internal parts of a watch. We don’t have any fancy corporate training; we just learned the trade by doing it every day for years. Chudighar Bazar is a place where people appreciate honest work, and that’s what we try to provide. We have all kinds of straps, from leather to metal, for when the old ones wear out. Sometimes a customer just wants to chat while we work, which is fine by us. It’s a local business through and through. We like being part of the bustle near the bus stand and helping people keep their schedules. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day, surrounded by the ticking of many different clocks.
