Lalit Kirana Stores

Lalit Kirana Stores is situated on Sumerpur Road in the Gaytri Nagar area. This is a local grocery shop where we stock all the basic kitchen essentials for the neighborhood. I spend a lot of my time sorting through bags of lentils and grain to make sure they are clean before I sell them. It’s a lot of manual work and my back sometimes hurts from it. The shop is right on the main road, so it gets a lot of dust from the trucks passing by. I’m constantly dusting off the packets of spices and the bars of soap. I’ve been running this place for many years now. People from Gaytri Nagar come here for their monthly rations because they know me. We have big metal bins for the loose items like flour and rice. It’s a traditional way of doing things that I prefer. I don't use a computer for billing; I just do the math in my head or on a small plastic calculator. Sometimes it’s very slow in the heat of the afternoon, so I sit in the back room where it’s a bit cooler. Then in the evening, everyone comes out to shop and it gets quite hectic. I like talking to the customers about what’s happening in the area. It’s more than just selling food; it’s about being part of the community here. Sumerpur Road is always noisy, but we stay open.
