Krishna Sweets Corner

Working at Krishna Sweets Corner on Radha Krishna Marg Rajendra Nagar means you never really get a day off. We are right in the middle of a residential area, so we see the same families every single day. I see the kids growing up, coming in first with their parents and then later on their own when they have a few coins to spend. We make our sweets in the back room where it is always at least twenty degrees hotter than the rest of the shop. The steam from the boiling milk makes the windows foggy in the winter, which I always liked as a kid. Radha Krishna Marg is usually a quiet street, but around Diwali or Holi, it becomes a complete mess with cars and people everywhere. We stay open very late those nights, filling box after box until our arms ache from the weight. The floor is made of old stone and it is hard to keep it looking shiny, so we just focus on keeping it clean. My mother still comes in to help with the decorations on the milk cakes sometimes when she has the energy. We do not use any of those big colorful lights or loud music to get attention from the street. People just come because they know we are here and they know what to expect from us. It is a simple shop in Rajendra Nagar and we are just regular people making a living.
