Jyoti Halwai & Namkeen Bhandar

If you are heading down toward Sojat City, near the Mod Bhatta area, you might spot our shop, Jyoti Halwai & Namkeen Bhandar. It is a busy stretch of road and we have been here for quite some time. The main thing we do here is making batches of namkeen and various sweets that people like to snack on. Our kitchen is usually full of steam and the smell of hot oil. It is a lot of hard work standing over the big iron pots all day, especially when the sun is beating down on the roof. We do not have any corporate office or fancy uniforms. It is just us in our regular clothes, getting the work done. A lot of people from the nearby neighborhoods come to us when they have a wedding or a small function at home because they know we just keep making things fresh. The counter stays busy from the morning until we close up at night. Sometimes the jars get a bit messy with fingerprints, and the noise from the traffic outside can be a bit much, but that is just how life is at the Mod Bhatta. We take things as they come and try to make sure we have enough stock for whoever walks through the door. It is a straightforward business, nothing too complicated about how we run it every single day. We just focus on the frying and the packing until the day is over.
